At the English School of Asturias, we firmly believe in the power of music as a key educational tool in the holistic development of our students. From early childhood through secondary education, music plays a crucial role not only in academic learning but also in the emotional, social and cultural growth of each student.
Early Childhood: Music and Movement
In early childhood, we introduce music in a fun and dynamic way. We use songs and musical activities to stimulate body expression and cognitive development. Through music and movement, our youngest students improve their coordination and learn to use their bodies as means of expression. During musical assemblies, children reinforce vocabulary and language, while also developing their motor skills through percussion and other instruments.
Primary: Creativity and Teamwork
In primary education, students continue to deepen their musical knowledge. Here, they not only work with the technical elements of music, such as rhythm, melody, and harmony, but also develop their creativity and appreciation for arts. Students have the opportunity to be part of the choir, where they learn the importance of living and collaborating with others, gaining confidence as they perform in front of an audience. These experiences not only enrich their musical skills but also allow them to enjoy unique moments of shared joy.
Secondary: Music and Technology
As students progress to secondary education, their musical education expands, exploring music from cultural and historical perspectives. Students discover how music has been an integral part of various cultures throughout history and begin to experiment with musical technology, using modern tools to compose and create. The integration of technology in music allows students to understand the current impact of this art form and explore new ways of expression.
ABRSM: An International Recognition
For those students who show a greater interest in musical instruments, we offer the opportunity to take part in ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examinations.
The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, founded in the United Kingdom in 1889, is a body that offers examinations and graded music assessments for schools with a focus on instrumental practice. Its certification system has spread to 93 countries, including Spain. The English School Of Asturias is an examination centre.
These internationally recognised exams allow students to advance their musical education with a standardised assessment system that reinforces their technique, theory and understanding of music.
The ABRSM is a global benchmark in music education and an invaluable opportunity for students who wish to take their talent to a professional level to have accredited support in their development. Beyond learning to play an instrument, the ABRSM exams reinforce commitment, discipline and passion for music in every student.
A Community That Lives Music
In our school, music is not just a subject; it is a vital part of our community. From early years to adolescence, music accompanies us at every step, fostering creativity, respect, discipline and passion. We believe that through music, our students not only grow as learners but also as well-rounded individuals, capable of facing the future with confidence, sensitivity and a deep connection to the arts.
Music is part of our essence and we are proud to be a school where art and education go hand in hand!
